General YW meeting

A few of the YW in our ward were able to attend the meeting at the Conference center on March 27. It was a wonderful meeting with messages from the YW General Presidency, Sister Dalton, Sister Dibbs, and Sister Cook. The highlight for most of the YW was hearing from President Dieter Uchtdorf about how to get your "happily ever after." For more about this meeting you can go to www.lds.org and go to the YW link.

Martin's Cove Trek

The Traverse Mountain Stake is preparing for their youth conference this summer in Wyoming! Our stake has been planning for 4 years to go on the Martin's cove trek and it's finally going to happen. We are so excited that the youth can all come (12 and up) and we are really looking forward to the amazing experience this will provide. There have already been a few firesides to help everyone get ready, and we will be having a few more activities to plan for it. The youth will also be hearing from their trek "ma and pa" in the next month or so. The ma's and pa's have been encouraged to get to know their new families before we leave so hopefully that will happen for everyone. In the meantime, the YW need to prepare their outfits for the trek. Above is a picture of the pioneer clothing that the boys and girls will be wearing. We will also be having an activity or 2 to sew bonnets or aprons, but please start looking at the DI or asking family members for their dresses. We will be posting a list of what you will be bringing soon too.

This is sure to be a great experience and we really encourage everyone to try their hardest to be a part of this!

Patriarchal Blessings

Today our lessons were on Patriarchal blessings and there is a personal progress experience that goes right along with the lesson. If you look in your book under Individual worth value experience 2, you will find the experience that goes along with this lesson. The following talks can be found on LDS.Org and you can also read more about Patriarchal blessings in the book True to the Faith . Here are the talks: "You have a Noble Birthright" by Julie B. Beck from the Ensign, May, 2006; "About Patriarchal Blessings" from the New Era, March 2004; "Be Thou an Example" by Thomas S. Monson, from the Ensign, May 2005.

When you have read all or some of these articles, show your mom or one of your leaders and you can get this experience signed off!

New Counselors in the Presidency

We forgot to mention way back in November that we have new 1st and 2nd counselors!

Sister Jessica White was called to be the first counselor with the Mia Maids and is so excited to be a part of YW again! She was involved with YW a few years ago when she was living in California with her husband. Sister White loves photography and has her own photography business. We hope to use her talents to add pictures of our newer Young Women to our blog soon! Sister White has a great spirit and can't wait to get to know you all!

Sister Karen Johnson is originally from Ireland and served her mission in Germany (like Sister Smith!) She is our 2nd counselor over the Beehives and can't wait to meet all our new beehives that are coming in this year. With 3 small children at home, Sister Johnson stays very busy, but loves to get out with the YW for mutual. She is happy to be involved with you all right now.

We have a great year planned with lots of fun activities that the YW will be planning and carrying out. We hope to be calling some new advisors to YW's soon, since we now have about 18 girls on our rolls! Yeah! Our group is growing!

Happy New Year!

IN 2010, YW WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS!!!! (except for this week, which will be at Sister Muramoto's on Tuesday night. Bring your Pers. Prog. and great ideas to plan for the year!)

YW Newsletter for December

The YW were able to feel the Christmas spirit by participating in a few anonymous acts of service. They really enjoyed seeing the excitement on the recipient's faces! As we begin the new year, we hope to become more unified in love towards one another, and we encourage the YW to pray daily to develop this love for each other.

Our 2010 Mutual theme is "Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest" (Joshua 1:9;) President Monson said this to the YW, "As I contemplate all that you face in the world today, one word comes to my mind. It describes an attribute needed by all of us but one which you—at this time of your life and in this world—will need particularly. That attribute is courage. First, the courage to refrain from judging others; second, the courage to be chaste and virtuous; and third, the courage to stand firm for truth and righteousness."

Here is the address to the LDS Website for youth called A Brand New Year 2010 https://beta.lds.org/youth/abny?locale=eng; Parents and youth can go to this website to see messages and counsel for our youth from our Church leaders. This is an awesome resource that the Church has made for us!

December joint activity

In December, we took the ym and yw out to dinner at Chipotle's (we had some spicy hot food, but it was yummy!) and then drove down to Temple Square to see the lights. It was chilly, but not too cold. We had a good turn-out and everyone had fun. We also got to see our old yw member, Kayana. She had a choir concert there that night.
